What are Clays?
Clays, or clay pigeons, are the targets used in various shooting sports. They
are discs designed to break easily when hit.
- Composition: Mixture of pitch and
chalk.
- Purpose: Designed for easy breakability upon impact.
- Variety: Come in different sizes and shapes tailored to
specific shooting disciplines.
Types of Clays
A range of specialty clays are available, each suited to different shooting
scenarios, adding unique challenges to the experience.
- Standard: 110mm diameter (most common).
- Midi/Mini: Smaller and more challenging.
- Rabbit: Designed to roll along the ground.
- Battue: Thin, fast, and performs looping flight
patterns.
How to Choose the Right Clays
Selection should be based on the type of shooting and the shooter's
experience level, as well as the surrounding environment.
- Beginners: Standard clays (larger, easier to break) are
ideal.
- Experienced: Smaller or faster targets (Midi, Battue) for
added challenge.
- Factors: Shooting environment (e.g., open fields vs.
dense woods) influences choice.
Features of High-Quality Clays
High-quality targets are essential for consistent performance and clear
feedback to the shooter.
- Key Traits: Consistency, durability, and
breakability.
- Performance: Should fly true and break cleanly upon
impact.
- Materials: Must ensure uniform weight and shape.
- Sustainability: Should be environmentally
friendly.
